Lourdes - A special experience We returned from Lourdes, tired from a long journey and exhausting week but refreshed and renewed by a life giving and transforming experience. It was the biggest Diocesan pilgrimage ever, with over 1,000 people from across the Diocese In excess of 400 young people gave the sick and disabled pilgrims a week to remember. Their enthusiasm, energy, faith and commitment is an inspiration to all, especially to the sick whom they are privileged to serve. I felt particularly privileged to accompany our group from St. Peter’s. They were delightful company and as always maintained our fantastic tradition for reliability, commitment and service. It was our tenth year as a Parish group of service to the Pilgrimage, and I will treasure their special gifts to me of a priestly stole and a special set for administering Holy Communion and the Sacrament of the Sick. Over the next few weeks some of their reflections will be published to give you a flavour of what the whole experience was like and what it is that attracts young people to come to Lourdes in such big numbers. Our young people are wonderful ambassadors for our parish and a credit to themselves and their parents. This year they prepared and presented a Liturgy for young people on the Gospel that we listen to at Mass today the Transfiguration of the Lord. The Liturgy reflected the theme this year ‘Keep your lamps lit’. Its special feature was the power point presentation that amidst the darkness of despair caused by suffering and conflict, Jesus is the light that transforms our own darkness and is our source of light. Many people found it very moving and it will shortly he published on the Diocesan Youth Website: http://www.dioceseofshrewsbury.org/dosy/index.htm We have lots of pictures that will appear here to give you a glimpse of a special week.. Fr. Pat offered Mass for your intentions and you were remembered at the Grotto in our prayer. Thank you all for your support and help in many ways. Already a group is forming for next year. Lourdes Holy Water is available from the Sacristy
