Fr Peter was born in
Stockport and baptised at Our Lady’s, Shaw Heath. After attending Our
Lady’s Primary School he went to St Bede’s, Manchester, and then on to
Ushaw College, Durham to train for the priesthood. He left Ushaw in
February 1975 to spend six months as a deacon with Fr Frank McManus
and Fr Peter Robertson in Our Lady’, Star of the Sea, Ellesmere
Port. Fr Peter was ordained priest on July 19th 1975 by Bishop
Grasar at Our Lady’s, Stockport. His first appointment was as curate
to St Werburgh’s Chester and then in 1979 he went to St Anthony’s
Woodhouse Park. In 1981 Fr Peter volunteered to go to the Diocese of
Kisii in Kenya for five years, most of which was spent in a mission at
a place called Manga. On his return to the diocese in 1986 he became
parish priest in St Theresa’s, Blacon, Chester and then in 1992 he was
appointed back to St Werburgh’s, Chester as parish priest. Since 1986
he has served two terms of office as Chairman of the Diocesan Council
of Priests, has been a governor of primary and secondary schools and a
trustee of the local hospice in Chester, and has been the director of
the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes since 2000. As a supporter of
Stockport County he is currently building up a portfolio of excuses of
why he cannot face going to Edgeley Park!
