St Peter’s Brownies (2nd Norbury Brownies)

Brownies at St Peter’s meet on a Monday during term time between 6.30pm and 7.45pm on a Monday evening.

Brownies are aged between 7 and 10 years and we do lots of different activities.  We try and aim to do a certain number of trips in a year and recent excursions have been to Old Trafford and Cadbury World as well as going to locally held Thinking day district events.

Brownies work in sixes and they are led by a sixer and seconder who are usually older brownies. All new brownies are allocated a buddy from the existing brownies to help show them ropes. Each new brownie has a celebration when they are ready to make their promise and officially join the pack.

We also do several badges a year and recent badges have included World Guiding and Writers badges. There are lots of badges which can be done covering all areas of interest.

We try and do at least one Pack Holiday a year. In the last few years we had a joint camp with all the St. Peter’s guides, scouts, brownies, cubs, rainbows and beavers and a joint trip with another brownie pack to a holiday home in Disley.

This year we will be raising money for wells in Africa, going on a trip to the Air Raid Shelters, having promise celebrations, doing the sports badge and so much more!

If you wish to register your daughter or guardian for Brownies or if you are an adult and have some spare time to help at Brownies, please contact either Ann Gregg on 0161 483 1692 or email lgregg@deloitte.co.uk.

St Peter’s Guides (1st Norbury Moor Guides)

We meet on a Thursday evening during term time between 7.30pm and 9.15pm at St Peter’s Guide and Scout Hut.

Age range of Guides is between 10 and 14 years and we undertake numerous activities including crafts, visits, weekends away to name but a few.  Guides are put into Patrols so that they can work in small groups as well as playing games and undertaking activities in larger groups.

Recent activities include a day trip to the Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester.  Here we visited the Planetarium and the Grossology Exhibition  and we completed Go For It Space & Astronomy .

The Guides took part in a Division Disco to celebrate Thinking Day on 17th February.  Here over 200 Rainbows, Brownies and Guides celebrated the birth of Lord and Lady Baden Powell (the founders of Girl Guides and The Scout Movement).

Later on this year we will be going away for a weekend and in Guides this is called a Guide Holiday.  Girls sleep in large dormitories and have lots of fun during the course of a weekend.

Guides is always packed with fun and there is always masses happening. You may do things as a whole Unit, or with your Patrol. Guides decide what they are going to do in their groups and then we decide together what we will do. This is when everyone in the Pack talks about their ideas and make plans.

There are also loads of different badges you can choose to do. They cover lots of different interests – Agility, Artist, Computer, Entertainer, First Aid, Friend to animals, Swimmer, Wildlife explorer and Writer are just a few.

Of course, there are also holidays and camps and Adventure days to look forward to. This is when you go away with your Guide friends for a day, overnight or even longer.

If you are interested in either becoming a Guide or if you are an adult and have some spare time to help run a Guide Unit, please contact Jane Stewart, leader of 1st Norbury Guides and Division Commissioner on 0161 483 6143 or email jane.stewart607@ntlworld.com.
